Rakul Preet Singh on Playing Surpanakha in ‘Ramayana’
Rakul Preet Singh opens up about playing Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ and calls it a special journey. Here’s why the role matters in the epic’s story.

In the Ramayana, few characters change the course of the story as much as Surpanakha. Her meeting with Ram and Lakshman in the forest leads to the events that bring Ravan into the story and, finally, to war. Rakul Preet Singh plays that part in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana'. A day after the film's release, she has shared what the experience meant to her.
In a note on Instagram, the 'Mere Husband Ki Biwi' actress said she had been waiting a long time to talk about the role. "Have been waiting to share the experience of Playing Surpanakha in Ramayana. It has been such a special journey for me. It's not every day that you get to be a part of a story that has been a part of our lives and culture for generations. To see Ramayana being brought to life on such a grand scale is truly something else. Being part of a story that means so much to our country, and seeing it come together on such a scale, makes this journey even more special," she wrote.
Thanking the Makers and Her Co-Stars
Rakul thanked producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari, calling them "the visionaries who dreamt big". She said their hard work and their wish to create "something extraordinary from india to the world" had made the journey an inspiring one.
