The wait is finally over — well, almost. After being pushed back not once but twice, Alia Bhatt's highly anticipated action film Alpha now has a release date locked in, and the makers have dropped the first official teaser to build the excitement. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film is the latest addition to YRF's beloved spy universe, and if the teaser is anything to go by, it's going to be one intense ride.
The teaser opens on what looks like a heartwarming moment — a father taking his daughter out for a special birthday dinner at a beautiful restaurant. She's turning 18, and Sita (played by Alia Bhatt) is visibly moved that her dad showed up for her. But as anyone familiar with spy thrillers knows, nothing stays warm for long.
Her father — played by a brooding Bobby Deol — slides a gift across the table. Inside it is a secret code. The mood shifts instantly. What started as a cozy birthday dinner turns cold and purposeful.
You are going on your first mission on your 18th birthday. What could be more special than this?" he tells her, with the calm certainty of a man who has been planning this moment for years. Sita's expression says it all — she's not exactly thrilled.
Trained Since Childhood for One Purpose
And here's the thing: this wasn't a surprise sprung on her overnight. Bobby Deol's character, referred to as Baba, has been grooming Sita since she was a little girl — shaping her into what Alpha represents: India's next generation of elite soldiers. Fastest. Sharpest. Strongest. The Alpha insignia she carries isn't just a symbol — it's literally etched onto her forearm.
The father's philosophy is simple and chilling: a wolf's daughter will be a wolf.
The teaser gives us quick flashes of Alia in full action mode — and she looks every bit the part. Whether she's a lone wolf on this mission or has backup, we'll have to wait and watch.
A Long Road to the Theatres
Getting Alpha to audiences hasn't been the smoothest journey. The film was originally supposed to arrive on Christmas Day last year — a prime Bollywood release slot. That didn't happen. It was then moved to April 17, 2026. That didn't happen either.
The reason, according to YRF, was straightforward — the VFX needed more time. As their spokesperson put it, they wanted to present the film in its most cinematic form and weren't willing to cut corners on the visual experience.
The new date? July 3. Third time's the charm, hopefully.
Where Does Alpha Fit in the Spy Universe?
Alpha will be the seventh film in YRF's spy franchise — a universe that started with Ek Tha Tiger and has since expanded through Tiger Zinda Hai, Tiger 3, Pathaan, War, and War 2. This time, the spotlight shifts to a new generation, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari leading the charge. It's a bold move, and based on the teaser, the franchise seems to be in good hands.
