Paresh Rawal Breaks Silence on Akshay Kumar Controversy, Reveals Why He Rejected 'OMG 2'
Paresh Rawal has now shared his perspective on the controversy surrounding the story idea for 'OMG 2'. He has clarified the situation regarding Akshay Kumar and Amit Rai. Here are the details of the matter.
While the discussions around the concept of 'OMG 2' were continuing, Paresh Rawal gave his views on Akshay Kumar. He stated that there is no issue with Akshay Kumar for him. Previously, it was claimed by Ashwin Varde who is a film producer that Rawal had wanted to kick Akshay Kumar out during the making of 'OMG'. Paresh Rawal has now clarified this point.
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal told 'Hindustan Times', "Akshay and I are doing 'Bhagam Bhag 2' next, which is Ashwin's [Varde] film. There is also 'Bhoot Bangla'. I really don't have any problem with Akshay Kumar. Why would I have a dispute with him?"
Rawal acknowledged that Akshay Kumar had tried to convince him to do 'OMG 2'. However, he had told Kumar that involving deities in a film dealing with sexuality would not be appropriate. He said, "But he went ahead with it; the film was successful, and I am happy. My point remains the same: that script did not require the presence of God."
Sharing details of his conversation with Amit Rai, Paresh Rawal said, "One day I told him, 'There is an idea-we could make something about sexuality; there's a young boy who masturbates.' That’s how the conversation started. I suggested that we should meet sexologist Prakash Kothari, as the subject required scientific facts."
Paresh Rawal added that he is not claiming to have written the story himself-Amit Rai is the only one credited at the Screenwriters Association-but he believes that when a concept is discussed, credit should be acknowledged. Rawal said, "When you share ideas with each other-the concept was mine-I was only seeking credit, not money. It came up years later during an interview that I would have been happy had I been given the credit. I never said that Amit didn't write it."
