In the June program of 'Apna Adda' held at Tokyo Film Center College of Arts, Japan, the entire hall echoed with applause when a disabled child, Maninder Singh Uppal, started speaking the dialogues of Sunny Deol's hit films one after the other. Many people had predicted that this special child, who was born prematurely, would remain bedridden for the rest of his life, but with the help of his strong will and Sunny Deol's films, he has not only passed the 12th class examination but has also started a computer operator course.
Maninder's mother, Gagandeep Uppal, also came to the program with him. Gagandeep says, "My prematurely born child did not get proper oxygen due to the negligence of the hospital, and the coordination of the right side of his body with the brain got disturbed. Maninder was three years old when his father had to come to Japan for a job. We were all in India. One day he was lying down and watching TV, and he saw Sunny Deol."
Maninder liked Sunny Deol's personality so much that he started insisting to watch Sunny's films. Gagandeep says, “Maninder started memorizing all the dialogues of Sunny Deol. This strengthened his mind. His memory improved and he started benefiting from it in his studies. By imitating Sunny's action films, Maninder's physical ability and efficiency started improving. For us, this was no less than a miracle. The child who people had said would be confined to bed forever, not only started walking well after watching Sunny Deol's films but also started dancing.”
Maninder's mother Gagandeep's eyes fill with tears while telling all this. She says, “Sunny Deol's films have given a new life to our son. After God, we are also grateful to Sunny Deol for this miracle. Our only hope is that we will be able to make Maninder meet Sunny Deol one day.”
