Imran Khan Gets Breathing Room: Bombay HC Holds ‘Leave India’ Notice In Abeyance Until November 2
The Bombay High Court has put actor Imran Khan’s ‘Leave India’ notice on hold until November 2. Here is what the FRRO notice says and what happens next.

Actor Imran Khan has secured temporary relief from the Bombay High Court, which on Tuesday kept the FRRO’s “Leave India” notice in abeyance until November 2. The notice had asked him to leave the country by October 28. The bench said the disputed notice “shall stay in abeyance” until the next hearing, so the question of whether it is legally valid remains undecided.
How The Hearing Unfolded
The petition was first expected to be heard on Monday but was taken up on Tuesday. A division bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna heard the matter. Representing the FRRO, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta asked the court for time. Khan’s counsel, Venkatesh Dhond, pointed to the October 28 deadline and said no coercive steps should be taken in the meantime. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh then gave a verbal assurance that nothing would happen before the next date. The bench accepted this and listed the matter for November 2.
What Led To The Notice
The case goes back to October 10, when Khan was detained by Mumbai Police near August Kranti Maidan, where demonstrators were calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over allegations of electoral irregularities. According to reports, an FIR forwarded by the police led the FRRO to issue the Leave India Notice on October 14. Reports say proceedings were initiated under provisions of the immigration law, on the allegation that he took part in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen.
