Hollywood horror film “Obsession” is about to reach a much larger Indian audience. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon have lent their voices to the lead characters of the Hindi-dubbed version, which will premiere on JioHotstar alongside the original English version on October 30. JioHotstar shared a promotional video on Instagram on Tuesday, in which the two actors playfully recreate the film’s famous car scene.
The pairing will interest fans of the duo, who previously worked together in “Dilwale” (2015) and “Bhediya” (2022). Their reunion here comes through voice work rather than the long-awaited “Bhediya” sequel some had hoped for.
The film follows Bear, a music store worker who is in love with his colleague Nikki. In a moment of desperation, he uses a strange toy called the “One Wish Willow” to make her fall for him. The wish backfires. Nikki becomes increasingly, unnervingly obsessed with him, and his life descends into a series of unwanted and horrifying events. The story explores what happens when love turns into an unhealthy fixation, blending romance with horror.
What The Stars Said
For Kriti Sanon, the project carries a personal milestone: it is the first time she has voiced another actor’s performance. “I loved the film and my performances in ‘Obsession’. It’s a very interesting, unique, and twisted story. I’ve never played such an edgy character before, which made the experience even more exciting and challenging. This is the first time I’ve lent my voice to another actor’s performance. I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting film. I had a lot of fun voicing it. I’m glad audiences will enjoy the Hindi version of the film,” she said.
Varun Dhawan said the dubbing process changed how he saw the film. According to him, working on the Hindi version let him notice details he had missed as a viewer. “Working on the Hindi version of Obsession allowed me to see the story from a completely different perspective. I enjoyed the film even more because I was able to see it so closely. I am very happy and excited that audiences will see it in Hindi and discover those details for themselves,” he said.
Why It Matters: Hollywood’s Push Into Hindi
The casting reflects a wider strategy among streaming platforms to make international content feel local. JioStar executive Alok Jain said Kriti and Varun bring “strong cross-generational appeal,” adding that the platform wants to bring the film to Hindi-speaking audiences “in voices that they know and connect with.” Star-voiced dubs have become a proven way of drawing viewers who might otherwise skip subtitled or English-language horror, and they give Bollywood actors a new avenue to engage audiences beyond conventional film roles.
