One of the most controversial verdicts in India that have been widely spoken about is that of the Shah Bano case by the Supreme Court in 1985. This year the judgment turned 40. A movie is now going to be released on this, which is to be directed by Suparn Verma.

One movie based on the Shah Bano case is in production, which is being directed by Suparn Verma. Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi will play lead roles. Shooting has been done in Lucknow for this film.

Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have usually spoken in favour of Shah Bano case being a watershed for legal changes, as well as for the Uniform Civil Code. 40 years back, Shah Bano's voice rattled the nation. That voice will rise before people now through the film.

In 1978, 62-year-old Shah Bano, who was the mother of five children, filed a case against her husband Mohammad Ahmed Khan in the Supreme Court. Her husband divorced her by giving triple talaq and refused to pay maintenance citing Muslim Personal Law. Shah Bano demanded maintenance under Section 125 of the law. After a long battle of seven years, in 1985 the Supreme Court ruled in her favor. The court said that this law applies to all citizens, regardless of their religion. After this, the Rajiv Gandhi government passed a law in 1986, which weakened this decision. Even today these issues are in discussion.
