'Loser' isn't the kind of track that plays it safe. Composed by Jakes Bejoy with lyrics by Suhail Koya, the song takes the negative label often thrown around as an insult and flips it into something worth celebrating. It embraces the imperfect, unconventional and chaotic side of its characters, giving the track a fun, irreverent energy that fits neatly into the film's tone.
Speaking about the song, Dulquer said, "It's a song that celebrates losers, and I think it's kind of fun. I also got to sing it." That short, casual line captures both the tonal register of the track and the actor's comfort in trying something new.
A First Look at Dulquer's Character
The song also serves as a subtle audio preview of the character Dulquer plays in the film. The role, he suggests, is going to surprise audiences who are used to his usual screen persona. Describing his part, Dulquer said, "I get to play a character who is quite a brat in this movie, which is very unlike me. Hopefully, by the end of the movie, I redeem myself and win you back."
For an actor known for measured, thoughtful roles, playing a full-blown brat is a genuine tonal shift — and 'Loser' is essentially the mission statement of that character's world.
A Pan-India Musical Rollout
Dulquer shared the song on his social timelines with a message that highlighted the film's linguistic reach. "No matter the language, the vibe hits the same! The LOSER SONG from I'M GAME is officially OUT NOW in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada!" he wrote — a signal of just how deliberately 'I'm Game' is being positioned as a pan-India release.
'The Game Gets Bigger, the Release Gets Wider'
'I'm Game' will now hit theatres worldwide on September 3, moving from its original August 20 date. Announcing the postponement earlier, Dulquer had acknowledged both the anticipation and the strategic rethink behind the delay.
"The game gets bigger. The release gets wider. We understand the anticipation and we apologize for the delay, but #imgame will now release worldwide on 3rd September, moving from its earlier release date of 20th August," he had said.
He went on to explain the reasoning: "The new release date comes with a larger vision for the film as #imgame gears up for a wider theatrical release across markets. The film will now simultaneously release in multiple languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada — taking the experience to audiences across the country and beyond."
Signing off, he added, "This decision has been made to give #imgame the scale, reach, and theatrical platform it truly deserves, allowing audiences across different markets to experience it on the big screen. The wait gets a little longer, But the game gets bigger!"
Why It Matters
Dulquer Salmaan lending his own voice to a song from his film is not just a cute marketing gimmick. It signals a deeper investment in the tonal identity of 'I'm Game'. For an action entertainer built around a rebellious, mischievous character, having the lead actor also deliver the track's rebellious first song brings a rare kind of internal consistency — the on-screen character and the off-screen artist merging into a single moment.
A Return to Malayalam Cinema on an Ambitious Scale
'I'm Game' also marks Dulquer Salmaan's return to Malayalam cinema, and everything about the film's scale suggests he is coming back on his own terms. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, the film has been mounted on an ambitious scale, with an 11-month shooting schedule spanning 156 days and filming taking place across more than 100 locations in South India.
That level of production commitment underlines the film's positioning as more than a routine action release — it's being built as a proper pan-India theatrical event.
The Cast and Craft Team
'I'm Game' features an ensemble cast including Antony Varghese, Mysskin, Kayadu Lohar, Kathir, Parth Tiwari and Samyuktha Viswanathan — a mix that spans Malayalam, Tamil and multi-industry talent. Jakes Bejoy is composing the music, while the film's action sequences have been choreographed by the acclaimed Anbariv Masters, whose work has become synonymous with grounded, physically credible action in South Indian cinema.
The film has been produced by Dulquer Salmaan himself, along with Jom Varghese, under Wayfarer Films — signalling that Dulquer's investment in the project extends far beyond the acting credit.
Industry Impact
By releasing simultaneously in five languages, 'I'm Game' fits neatly into the rising pan-Indian theatrical model that has redefined South Indian film releases over the past few years. If the film delivers on its scale ambitions, it could further sharpen Dulquer's positioning as one of the most bankable cross-industry stars in Indian cinema.
The Bigger Picture
'Loser' is more than a first single. It's a mood board for the film — irreverent, playful, unafraid to flip conventions, and clearly designed for repeat listens. With Dulquer's voice on the track, a rebellious character on screen, a five-language rollout in cinemas, and a September 3 release date, 'I'm Game' is quickly shaping up as one of the year's most confident theatrical bets. And with the actor himself singing his character into existence, the film is already succeeding in one thing: making audiences want in on the game.
