Aanand L. Rai Reflects on ‘Zero’ Failure, Admits He Misjudged Shah Rukh Khan’s Stardom

The latest release from director Aanand L. Rai is "Tere Ishq Mein," which is still playing in cinemas. The movie has collected more than ₹109 crores within 15 days of its release. The movie has garnered a mixed reaction from viewers as well as critics. Now, director Aanand L. Rai has commented on his failure with his movie "Zero" starring SRK.

In a conversation with Glata Plus, director Aanand L. Rai discussed the failure of his 2018 film "Zero." The director said that the problem with "Zero" was that the superstar came to him with a lot of love. But I never understood that his image should be a part of the film. I was working with a big actor, but later I realized that I had to be mindful of his image. I couldn't take advantage of Shah Rukh's stardom. Perhaps I couldn't properly incorporate it into my roles. I was floating in the air and my balance was off.

Talking about his experience shooting with Shah Rukh, the director said, "I was enjoying the journey, and Shah Rukh was enjoying it even more. Later, it became a little scary because one of us should have stopped and said, 'He's a star.' He never talked about it, and I never understood. Perhaps then, things would have been different."

Aanand L. Rai's latest release is "Tere Ishq Mein." Previously, Aanand L. Rai has made films like "Zero," "Tanu Weds Manu," "Tanu Weds Manu Returns," "Raanjhanaa," "Atrangi Re," and "Rakshabandhan." Anand L Rai was expecting success like 'Raanjhanaa' from 'Tere Ishq Mein', but the film could not impress the audience that much.
