Akanksha Chaudhary Defends Ram Kapoor Amid Lock Upp Row
Actress Akanksha Chaudhary says Ram Kapoor never made anyone uncomfortable on Lock Upp, responding to criticism over his greeting of female contestants with kisses.
Mumbai: Actress Akanksha Chaudhary has spoken in support of Ram Kapoor amid criticism surrounding his manner of greeting female contestants with kisses on the forehead and cheeks on the reality show Lock Upp.
Chaudhary, who was recently evicted from the show, told IANS that she never observed Kapoor making anyone uncomfortable. She said she understood that inappropriate behaviour occurs in the industry and elsewhere, but maintained that Kapoor’s intentions, based on her experience, were not inappropriate.
“Obviously, I agree that this happens a lot in the industry and outside. I am not saying anything for that. But because I was at home and I used to talk to Ram sir daily. And even in the secret room, I heard everything that Shreya used to say about Ram sir. And it was not like that at all. Ram sir did not make anyone uncomfortable,” she said.
Recalling a conversation inside the house, Chaudhary said Shreya Kalra had remarked in front of Shilpa Shinde that Kapoor kissed her more than her own father. According to her, Shilpa Shinde responded that he did not do it in that manner. Chaudhary added that Shreya later clarified she did not mean the comment in an inappropriate way.
“So then she said, I remember this. We were having a conversation at the counter where we used to cook food. So she said, ‘Yes, obviously, I am not saying it that way. I don’t mean it that way. I am just saying that he does it again and again.’ So she was very chill about it,” Chaudhary said.
She claimed the matter escalated after it surfaced during a lie-detector task, which she later understood had been conducted by influencer Apoorva Makhija. According to Chaudhary, Shreya then changed her stance and said she had told Kapoor not to touch her in that manner.
Ram Kapoor has faced social media criticism after clips from the show showing him greeting female contestants with kisses on the forehead and cheeks circulated widely. Some viewers alleged that the gestures appeared to make certain contestants uncomfortable.
