Mumbai, July 28 — Filmmaker Karan Johar marked the third anniversary of his directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani on Tuesday by sharing a collection of previously unseen behind-the-scenes photographs from the production.

Posting on Instagram, Johar released a photo dump that captures him at work on set—directing actors, consulting with heads of department, and engaging in discussions with the late actor Dharmendra. The images present a candid view of the collaborative atmosphere that defined the shoot.

In the accompanying caption, Johar wrote: “Photo Dump of one of the most joyous experiences I have had on set! #3yearsofRRKPK. I can’t wait to be back on set, for my own heart.”

The 2023 release marked Johar’s return to direction seven years after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The ensemble cast featured Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. Much of the film was shot in New Delhi, where the production adopted a distinct retro aesthetic. Early leaked photographs from the outdoor schedule had already signalled the visual tone long before the official trailer appeared.

The film opened in theatres one week after the high-profile Hollywood clash between Barbie and Oppenheimer, yet found its own audience and commercial space.

While celebrating the anniversary of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Johar is preparing for his next on-camera assignment. He is set to return as host of the second season of the reality series The Traitors. The Indian adaptation of the BAFTA- and Emmy-winning global format is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment in collaboration with All3Media International. Twenty-one celebrity contestants will compete for the grand prize. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on 13 August 2026.

Johar’s anniversary post serves both as a nostalgic look back at a production he has repeatedly described as joyful and as a public signal of his readiness to resume directing. The rare BTS images, particularly those involving Dharmendra, have drawn attention from fans and industry observers who view the film as one of the more light-hearted yet emotionally layered entries in Johar’s recent body of work.

As the three-year mark passes, the combination of archival set photographs and the upcoming reality-show commitment keeps Johar visible across both theatrical and streaming platforms. Whether the anniversary reflections translate into an imminent directorial announcement remains to be seen, but the message in his caption is unambiguous: he is eager to return to the controlled chaos of a film set.
