Many viewers first saw Anuj Thakur as a teenager on Disney Channel. Those viewers, and the colleagues who watched him grow into a working actor, are now coming to terms with his death. Anuj passed away on October 27 at the age of 33, after reportedly suffering a seizure in his sleep.
According to reports, his mother found that he had passed away when she went to wake him after his usual 4.30 am alarm rang. The news became public only days later, when a close friend shared it online.
Casting director Rupesh Sonar, who had known Anuj for years, confirmed the news in a heartfelt post on his social media account. He wrote about their long friendship and said he still could not accept the loss.
"Still can't believe that you are no longer with us. You were not just a friend but like a little brother to me. We had so many projects planned together, and I still remember witnessing your struggles during your initial days and seeing your journey. Life is truly unpredictable. It's heartbreaking to accept that you are gone so soon. This news feels unreal. You will always be remembered, brother. Rest in peace," Rupesh wrote.
His words point to the side of Anuj's story that viewers rarely saw: the early struggle, the projects still being planned, and a career still being built.
Actor Vaqaur Shaikh, who knew Anuj from his early days in the industry, wrote, "Ohhh my God… that's unbelievably… Very sad to hear this, I knew him since his initial days… Very sweet and nice guy… May his soul rest in peace. (sic)"
Actor Hansa Singh also shared her shock: "WHATTTTT HOW. ONE AFTER THE OTHER SHOCKING NEWS TODAY. HEARTBREAKING. May his soul travel with ease to the other side. OM SHANTI (sic)"
From Disney teen star to leading man
Anuj's television career lasted nearly two decades. He made his acting debut in 'Dhoom Machao Dhoom', the Disney Channel teen series that was popular with young audiences.
He went on to appear in several Hindi television shows, including 'Bandhan Saath Janmon Ka' and 'Beend Banoongaa Ghodi Chadhunga'. He later played the lead role in Sagar Mehta's sitcom 'Mahisagar', which became one of the best-known projects of his career.
Many actors who start as child or teen performers struggle to keep working as adults. Anuj kept getting roles for close to twenty years, which shows his steady commitment to the craft.
A final post, now a memorial
Anuj's last Instagram post, a set of pictures from his July 2026 trip to South Africa, has become a place for fans to grieve. Followers have filled the comments with memories of his shows and messages of disbelief.
The response is a reminder of the bond viewers form with familiar faces on the small screen. For many fans of 'Dhoom Machao Dhoom', he was part of their childhood television, and they are now saying goodbye.
Anuj Thakur is remembered by colleagues as a kind and hardworking actor whose career ended far too soon.
