Reality television often thrives on playful rivalry between couples, but one of the most talked-about moments on 'Pati Patni Aur Panga' came from a place of raw vulnerability. Television director Rohit Raj Goyal turned emotional as he spoke about his wife, actress Deepika Singh, and the role she has played in his family, particularly in caring for his father, who has special needs.
Rohit opened up about Deepika's decision to marry him when her career was at its peak, and to a man living in a joint family. "At the peak of her career, she decided to get married, and that too to a man who lives in a joint family. She accepted the entire family," he said, naming his mother, father, brother and sister-in-law.
Speaking about his father, Rohit said, "Just as we refer to children with special needs, my father is also a child with special needs. Accepting him, talking to him and taking care of him, only Deepika does that."
The director also revisited the hurtful remarks his family once endured. "When people saw my father, they used to say that his children would never get married and that we would end up begging somewhere," he recalled. "But on the day we got married, so many people came to witness the wedding. This is all because of her."
Deepika's Heartfelt Reaction
Deepika responded with a message of her own, writing, "Kabhi socha nahi tha ye baat sabke saamne aayegi, par Rohit ji ne dil se sab keh diya. I was speechless because I had no idea he was going to share this." She added that his family's respect means a lot to her, and said she was proud of everything Rohit has achieved on his own through hard work, patience and his mother's prayers and blessings.
Their story began on the sets of 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', where Deepika became a household name as Sandhya Rathi and Rohit worked as director. The professional bond grew into a relationship, and the couple married on May 2, 2014, in Mumbai. Their son, Soham, was born in May 2017.
Why This Moment Matters
Rohit's words go beyond a celebrity love story. Families caring for members with special needs in India still face social judgement, and such conversations rarely reach mainstream entertainment platforms. By speaking openly on a popular reality show, Rohit has given visibility to a reality many households live with quietly, and to the caregivers, often women, who carry that responsibility.
Fans who grew up watching Sandhya's on-screen devotion to family are likely to see this as a real-life echo of the character that made Deepika famous. In a format built on 'panga', Rohit Raj Goyal's tribute stood out for its honesty, reframing Deepika Singh not just as a TV star, but as the person who, in his words, changed how the world looked at his family.
