Varun Dhawan Recalls Best Time Making Dishoom

Mumbai, July 31 — Actor Varun Dhawan on Friday marked the tenth anniversary of his action-comedy Dishoom, recalling the enjoyable experience of working with John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Taking to Instagram, Dhawan shared throwback pictures from the sets and expressed his fondness for the film directed by his brother Rohit Dhawan. He captioned the post: “Toh Dishoom Had the best time making a film with my brothers rohit @thejohnabraham @jacquelienefernandez. We shot a large portion of it in UAE. How time flies but anytime india ko bura kahaan toh dishoom can be back. 10 years.”

The carousel of photographs offered glimpses of the easy camaraderie among the lead cast. Images showed Dhawan and Abraham posing together, alongside lighter, playful moments shared with Fernandez.

Released in 2016, Dishoom starred Dhawan and Abraham as police officers Junaid Ansari and Kabir Shergill. The story followed the pair—officers with contrasting personalities—on a 36-hour mission to rescue India’s leading cricketer after he went missing in the Middle East. Parineeti Chopra, Akshay Kumar and Nargis Fakhri appeared in special cameos.

A substantial portion of the film was shot in the United Arab Emirates, a detail Dhawan highlighted while reflecting on the passage of time. His light-hearted suggestion that the characters could return “anytime India ko bura kahaan” underscored the enduring affection he holds for the project.

Dhawan was most recently seen in the romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan and released on June 5. The film co-starred Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, with supporting roles from Chunky Panday, Jimmy Shergill, Rakesh Bedi and Maniesh Paul, and a special appearance by Mouni Roy.

By revisiting Dishoom a decade later, Dhawan offered fans a reminder of the collaborative spirit and on-location energy that defined the production, while noting how quickly the intervening years have passed.
