Music fans are uniting to preserve a heritage building. This building is the childhood home of the legendary musician SD Burman and RD Burman in Kolkata. This house is situated at 36/1 South End Park in Kolkata. This building is being ignored. Fans are now asking the authorities to turn this house into a museum.

To put pressure on the authorities, a group of fans has started an online petition. It has received more than 7,000 signatures within a week. Fans say that this house should be preserved as a cultural site. The petition states, 'This house is not just a building of brick and stone. It has an echo of those who shaped Indian music. It should be turned into a museum, a cultural space. This will honor his talent.'

In January 2021, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee renamed the street outside the house as 'Sangit Sarani' and there was talk of converting the property into a museum. However, according to family members, work on this plan could not move forward.

RD Burman's uncle Abhijit Dasgupta told The Telegraph, 'We were promised to build a museum. We were told that a blue plaque would be installed. In 2021, they also renamed that street as Sangeet Sarani. However, nothing happened after that.'

RD Burman was one of the most famous music directors of Indian cinema. He was active from the 1960s to the 1990s. He composed music for more than 330 films. Burman worked with singers like Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.
