Indian-origin singer Raja Kumari gets American Music Award, says - there is still more work to do

Indian-origin rapper-singer and songwriter won the American Music Award (AMA) today, on Tuesday. She was nominated in 'Arcane League of Legends: Season 2' at the 51st AMA awards that were held in Los Angeles on Monday evening. Raja Kumari is the first Indian-origin singer to win the AMA Award.

In an interview to news agency PTI, Raja Kumari said that she is the first musician of Indian origin to be nominated for the AMA. 'Renegade (We Never Run)' from 'Arcane League of Legends', a collaboration with Raja Kumari, UK hip-hop artist Stefflon Don and Dominican-Brazilian artist Zarina De Marco, was nominated under the Favorite Soundtrack category.

Raja Kumari said that this song is very special for her. She was approached for this song because her character in the film is Indian. Raja Kumari said, 'The Arcane team had heard about me that I represent my culture and am capable of giving great music as a woman'. Raja further said that she never expected that this song would be such a big hit.

Raja Kumari said, 'This song reached the top 10 in the world on the 'Viral 50' chart on Spotify. It was something that came out of the blue. I had just made a song for a film. I did not have much expectations from it. This song had a great impact on people'. The rapper said that the AMA nomination came at a time when she had started believing that perhaps one has to focus on one genre to become big. Raja Kumari said, 'I have always been a global artist. So the AMA award reminds me that I still have a lot of work to do. There is still a long way to go'.
