The situation is now getting worse on the issue of Kamal Haasan's comment on the Kannada language. Refusing to apologize for his remark has now cost Kamal Haasan heavily. The price of the same would have to be paid by his upcoming movie 'Thug Life'. The movie 'Thug Life' won't see the release date on June 5 for the time being. The Karnataka High Court has put the release of the movie on hold until the next hearing.
The Karnataka High Court today said that Kamal Haasan's statement on the Kannada language has caused unrest in the state. The court made this remark while hearing the writ petition of the actor seeking security for the release of the film 'Thug Life' in Karnataka and adjourned the hearing till June 10. In such a situation, the film will not be able to release in Karnataka till June 10. The film was earlier scheduled to release on June 5.
According to the report of Live Law, Kamal Haasan agreed to stop the release of 'Thug Life' in Karnataka. The High Court has taken this decision after Kamal Haasan's comment was accused of hurting the sentiments of the Kannada community. Refusing to apologize for his statement, the actor said that he had no ill will in his mind, and did he make that comment with any malice. Kamal Haasan proposed to talk to the Film Chamber.
This decision has been taken by the bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna. This matter has arisen from a statement given by Kamal Haasan during the audio release of 'Thug Life'. In the hearing before lunch, the High Court had verbally asked Kamal Haasan to apologize for his statement. Because it has hurt the sentiments of the people of Karnataka. But Kamal Haasan refused to apologize. Kamal Haasan's lawyer Dhyan Chinnappa argued that Kamal Haasan's statement is being seen in a different context. This statement was given in the presence of the superstar of the Kannada film industry.
After Kamal Haasan's reply, the court remarked, "There is no apology in this. Whether you are Kamal Haasan or someone else, you cannot hurt the sentiments of the people. The division of this country is on a linguistic basis. No public person can make such statements. This has caused unrest and animosity. The people of Karnataka had just apologized. Now you have come here to seek protection. The actor has no right to make such a statement because he is neither a historian nor a linguist.
At the same time, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has also made a big declaration. He said Kamal Haasan should retract the Kannada language statement and apologize. If Kamal wishes, we would meet and talk to him.
