‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ vs ‘Anupamaa’: Smriti Irani’s Comment Upsets Cast Members
Recently, Smriti Irani made a comment about the serial "Anupamaa," which angered the cast. Smriti stated that she doesn't see Rupali Ganguly's show as a competitor to her iconic "Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2."
Ekta Kapoor's popular show "Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" returned to television after 17 years. The show received rave reviews and was competing with Rupali Ganguly's hit series "Anupamaa." Anupamaa consistently ranked number one on the TRP charts.
This prompted many to compare it to "Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi." Subsequently, in an interview, Smriti Irani dismissed claims that 'Anupama' was a competitor to 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Her comments have disappointed the Anupama cast.
Several Anupama cast members reacted to Smriti's interview clip and expressed their displeasure. Actress Alpana Buch, who plays Baa on the show, said, "Respected Smriti ji, this was not expected from you." Actress Miloni Kapadia, who plays Kinjal, wrote, "It breaks my heart to see our love not reciprocated."
Actress Jaswir Kaur, who plays Rupali Ganguly's friend on Anupama, commented, "Did this happen out of context, or did I mishear the question? Why are you comparing two different shows from different eras on the same channel? One was the most popular show 25 years ago, along with a few others, and one is a current hit show that has been running for the past five years. Yes, there's no comparison, yet they're being compared... hmm." Actress Alpana Buch, who plays Baa in Anupama, commented, "Respected Smritiji, this was not expected from you."
In an interview with India Today, Smriti Irani was asked how she felt about 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' being compared to Anupama. Speaking on this, Smriti said, "When someone reaches number 30 in TRPs, you can be our competition, right? We were there 25 years ago. If you have the ability to be remembered for 25 years, then we can talk about competition. If you've been a three-time MP, a cabinet minister for a decade, a member of the BJP for 25 years, if you want to compete, you have to be fair to everyone within the so-called competitive arena."
