Mohanlal Viswanathan was born on May 21, 1960, in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. He was passionate about acting since childhood. It is said that when he was in sixth grade, he played the role of a 90-year-old man in a play and received the Best Actor award for this role.

Due to Mohanlal's depth and spontaneity in acting, both audiences and critics fondly call him "Lalettan." Mohanlal has previously received five National Film Awards and is also honored with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
