Bollywood’s favourite couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, picked a day rich in meaning to introduce their younger daughter. On Dussehra, the couple announced in a joint Instagram post that their second daughter is named Devi Padukone Singh.
The caption read: “Of Love & Abundance... ? Devi Padukone Singh | देवी पादुकोण सिंह ?.”
The family portrait shows Deepika and Ranveer in coordinated ivory and gold traditional outfits, holding their newborn. Elder daughter Dua leans in to plant a kiss on her baby sister’s face, a moment that has quickly become one of the most loved pictures of the festive season.
Why ‘Devi’ on Dussehra Feels Special
Vijayadashami celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura and marks the end of Navratri, nine days devoted to the divine feminine. Naming a daughter ‘Devi’, meaning goddess, on this very day gives the announcement a deeply symbolic touch.
From a Prayer to a Goddess
The couple seems to have built a meaningful pattern. Their first daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, was born on September 8, 2024, and they revealed her name on Diwali that year, explaining, “Dua: meaning a prayer. Because she is the answer to our prayers.”
Two years later, the names of the sisters read almost like a story: first came a prayer, then a goddess. Both reveals also followed the same approach: no rush, a gap of a few weeks after birth, and an announcement on a major Hindu festival.
Deepika has earlier explained this patience. Speaking about Dua’s name, she said it was important to “first hold the baby in our arms” and let her personality start to develop before choosing a name.
The Journey to Baby Number Two
Deepika and Ranveer announced their second pregnancy in April 2026 with a playful post featuring Dua holding a pregnancy test showing a positive result. They welcomed their second baby girl on September 19, 2026, sharing a post that read, “Welcome baby girl...19/9/2026...Dua, Deepika, Ranveer.”
About the Parents
Deepika and Ranveer married in November 2018 in Italy, in a ceremony that blended Konkani and Sindhi traditions. Their love story began on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’.
On the work front, Deepika will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s ‘King’ with Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, set for release on December 24, 2026. She also has a project with director Atlee and Allu Arjun. Deepika has also been vocal about balanced work hours for new mothers in the film industry.
Ranveer is enjoying the success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, which has reportedly grossed over ₹1,700 crore worldwide. He is next set to star in Jai Mehta’s post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Pralay’.
Despite being among India’s biggest stars, Deepika and Ranveer have kept their daughters’ early lives largely private, sharing milestones only on their own terms. Their festive reveals show a balance between privacy and sharing joy with fans.
Audience Sentiment
Fans have showered love on the post, with many calling Dua and Devi a perfect pair of names that reflect faith, family and tradition.
