PM Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to legendary film director Bharathiraja. According to PM Modi, Bharathiraja was an important personality in the history of Indian cinema, whose films revolutionized Tamil films by highlighting the realities of rural India.
PM Modi expressed his condolences to the director's family and fans on social media. Regarding the director, PM Modi wrote on Twitter, "The passing of Bharathiraja is deeply saddening. He created works that transformed Tamil cinema. He reached the pinnacle of success in the film industry. The way he portrayed rural life is commendable. My condolences to his family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti."
The last rites of legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja will be performed with full state honours in his hometown of Theni on Thursday. Authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the cremation. His funeral is scheduled for 3 pm today.
Bharathiraja made his directorial debut in 1977 with the film "16 Vayathinile" and became one of Tamil cinema's most influential filmmakers. In a career spanning over four decades, he directed over 40 films and earned the title "Iyakkunar Imayam" for his contributions to cinema.
Some of his most famous films include "Kizhakke Pogum Rail," "Sigappu Rojakkal," "Alaigal Oivathillai," "Kadhal Oviyam," and "Mudhal Mariyathai." His directorial debut was "Paravai Koothil Vazhum Mangal." In addition to directing films, he also acted in a few films.
