Too Expensive, Not His Style: Abhishek Bachchan on Staying Away from IPL
Abhishek Bachchan: Abhishek Bachchan reveals why he never bought an IPL team. Find out what the actor had to say about the most popular cricket league...
Abhishek Bachchan, besides being an actor, also owns teams in sports like kabaddi and football. The team he owns in kabaddi has even won. However, Abhishek Bachchan, who owns teams in two different sports, has maintained a distance from the Indian Premier League (IPL). While stars like Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, and Juhi Chawla have invested in IPL teams, Abhishek Bachchan recently explained why he has distanced himself from the league and never invested in a team.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Abhishek Bachchan explained why he never bought an IPL team. The actor said, "It's very interesting. I don't know anyone who doesn't like the IPL. I think it's the pinnacle of sports entertainment." I wanted to join, but honestly, back then, when it started, it was very expensive. I was an aspiring actor. My films had just started doing well, and I was earning a decent income, but it was beyond my budget.
The actor further explained what he could contribute to the sport beyond the financial aspect. He said that the most important thing was that he didn't know what he could contribute. The BCCI does a great job with infrastructure, so what could I contribute? I'm not the kind of person who would sit in the stands, wave and be happy, saying, "Wow, a star has arrived."
Abhishek Bachchan said, "If you've seen me at my matches, I'm very involved. I sit with the players. I live with them. I even train them if possible. I take care of their diet. I manage every little thing. That's how I like to work."
Speaking specifically about cricket, Abhishek said, "I didn't know how I could contribute because at that time I didn't know as much about the game as I do now. I knew more about other sports. But never give up, maybe something will happen in the future."
