Delhi HC Hears Nagarjuna’s Plea to Safeguard Personality Rights from AI Misuse

Nowadays, AI is being utilized to abuse the personalities of film stars. There have been several actors who have raised their concerns in this context earlier. South Indian actor Nagarjuna has now gone to the Delhi High Court to safeguard his personality rights. The case was heard on 25th September, and the Delhi HC has purportedly issued an interim order.

Justice Tejas Karia is hearing the actor's case. He stated that he would pass an order on Nagarjuna's personality rights matter. However, the court also stated that since the petitioners can identify the URLs, it would be best to direct them to be removed. It is worth noting that some URLs have been identified to date. The court further stated that it would pass appropriate orders and scheduled the next hearing for January 23.

Nagarjuna's lawyer, Praveen Anand, argued before the court that actor Nagarjuna's identity was being misused. His name was being used on pornographic websites and in paid promotions. It was also alleged that several videos of the actor had been uploaded to YouTube using AI.

Before Nagarjuna, Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, as well as filmmaker Karan Johar, had also approached the High Court seeking protection of their personality and publicity rights.
