Adivi Sesh Says Pad Man Changed His Approach to Hindi Storytelling

The actor Adivi Sesh has been in the news recently owing to his latest flick called “Dakait.” Not only did he act in the film, but he also penned it himself. He recently revealed that a film starring Akshay Kumar inspired him to rethink his understanding of Hindi cinema, which led to the creation of his new movie called “Dakait: Ek Prem Katha.”

While speaking to India Today, Adivi Sesh elaborated on the significance of filming the movie on the borders of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The dry and sunny terrain was selected intentionally to create an image of a South Indian cowboy Western.

Adivi Sesh said that after watching Akshay Kumar's "Padman" and learning about its true background, he reconsidered how to bring regional stories to a wider audience. He said, "We wanted something that felt like the backdrop of a cowboy western film. We always knew it would be a South Indian story told in Hindi."

The actor further explained how "Padman" influenced his decision. "I really liked Akshay Kumar's "Padman." When I read the original story, I realized it was actually a Tamil story. So I thought, why not tell our stories in Hindi so we can reach the audience directly?"

Instead of setting the story in a more traditional Hindi-speaking region, they decided to retain the South Indian background while making it accessible in Hindi. Instead of re-setting the story, the characters are incidentally shown speaking Hindi there.

The actor's approach also reflects a major shift in Indian cinema. Where linguistic boundaries are becoming increasingly flexible and stories are crossing regional boundaries more easily than ever before.

'Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha', directed by Shenil Dev, is currently in theaters. Although the film is not performing well in Hindi compared to 'Dhurandhar 2', the Telugu version is still earning decent revenue. In addition to Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap also play lead roles in the film. Prakash Raj and Atul Kulkarni also appear in important roles.
