Diljit Dosanjh's 'Satluj' Removed From ZEE5 Within Two Days; FWICE President Questions Actor's Film Choices
Diljit Dosanjh Movie Satluj Controversy: Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Satluj' is currently embroiled in controversy. The film was suddenly removed from the OTT platform. Meanwhile, the President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees has raised several questions about actor Diljit.
The movie directed by Diljit Dosanjh named Satluj got released on OTT platforms on Friday. Within two days, the movie was removed from the platform. This movie is based on a real person who was the Punjab activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra. This movie is set up during the tough era of the 1990s when the state was struggling with terrorism. This movie was banned by the censor board for more than three years. However, this movie without making any cuts got released on ZEE5 on Friday but it was removed within two days from the platform. There have been many opinions shared by people regarding this movie.
Interacting with IANS about Diljit Dosanjh and his film "Satluj," BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, said, "I am very surprised why Diljit Dosanjh chooses controversial films. He should understand the impact of such decisions. He is a superstar from Punjab and should make wise decisions that do not affect his image."
He further added, "If something creates a problem in society, such content should be carefully reviewed. The purpose of cinema is to entertain and provide information. If the government repeatedly interferes or the censor board finds any issues, it means that there were some elements in the film that were not appropriate for public viewing."
According to BN Tiwari, why is the film being reconsidered? He says, "I don't understand why the film 'Satluj' is being reconsidered after so many cuts and the censorship process. The Censor Board should have addressed all concerns from the beginning. Once approved, the film should be released, as a lot of money is at stake for the producer."
It should be noted that the film 'Satluj' was removed from OTT platforms for a significant reason. A government official told PTI that the makers of 'Satluj' had applied for censor certification in 2022 under its original title 'Punjab 95', but they refused to accept the 127 cuts suggested by the Censor Board and halted the film's release.
According to the official, the filmmakers were not taking any action on the suggested cuts and eventually quietly released the film on OTT platforms with a new title. OTT platforms do not fall under the Censor Board's jurisdiction. When the matter came to the government's attention, the Zee platform was asked to remove it.
The official said, "This directive was issued due to security concerns. OTT platforms were asked to follow the guidelines. If the makers want to release the film in theaters and on OTT, they should follow the established rules."
