Speaking exclusively to IANS, Yami was asked who is at home with her son when she is busy with work. The answer was one that connects across generations and geographies.
"He is with his mother's mother," Yami said.
That single line captured the deeply Indian, deeply universal truth about grandmothers as the invisible pillars of working families. In countless Indian households — celebrity or otherwise — nanis have quietly held the fort while young mothers built their careers.
'Only a Mother Understands Who Her Heart Can Trust'
What made the moment particularly touching, however, was the emotional reasoning behind Yami's choice.
"Only a mother is able to understand who their heart can trust," Yami had said.
That reflection speaks to something that no scheduling app or nanny service can replace — the emotional certainty of leaving your child in the care of the one person who once cared for you. For Yami, that person is her own mother, and the trust runs in a direct, unbroken line.
The Love Story Behind the Family
For those who don't know, Yami tied the knot with director Aditya Dhar on June 4, 2021. Their wedding was famously private — an intimate ceremony that mirrored the low-key elegance with which the couple has always chosen to conduct their personal life.
Taking the next step in their journey together, the couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Vedavid, on May 10, 2024 — an auspicious date that added even more meaning to an already special moment.
The Announcement That Melted Hearts
When they announced Vedavid's birth, Yami and Aditya chose an equally beautiful visual. They uploaded a joint post on social media with an adorable photograph of Lord Krishna holding a baby boy in his hands. The caption on the picture read: "We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our beloved son, Vedavid, who graced us with his birth on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritya. Please shower him with all your kind blessings and love. Warm Regards, Yami and Aditya."
Every element of the announcement — the deity chosen, the wording used, the auspicious day mentioned — reflected the family's spiritual grounding and quiet grace.
Gratitude to the Medical Team
The couple's announcement post also included a warm note of thanks to the medical professionals who had supported them through the pregnancy and delivery.
"We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptionally dedicated and wonderful medical professionals at Surya Hospital, especially Dr Bhupender Awasthi and Dr Ranjana Dhanu, whose expertise and tireless efforts made this joyous occasion possible," the post read.
Yami and Aditya added a beautiful line about their hopes for their son: "As we embark on this beautiful journey of parenthood, we eagerly anticipate the bright future that awaits our son. With every milestone he achieves, we are filled with the hope and belief that he will grow to become a beacon of pride for our entire family as well as our beloved nation."
That final sentiment — a hope tied not just to family but to nation — captured the tone both Yami and Aditya have consistently brought to their public presence.
Why It Matters
For Indian working women, moments like Yami's candid response carry unexpected weight. When a public figure openly acknowledges relying on her mother to care for her child, she quietly validates the same reality millions of families navigate every day. She strips away the impossibly perfect image of the working mother who "does it all" and replaces it with something more honest — a working mother who builds her career on the strength of the women who came before her.
In doing so, she elevates the role of grandmothers, whose contributions to child-rearing in India remain vast, largely unpaid and often unacknowledged in public conversation.
Cultural Impact
The grandmother-as-primary-support model has been a quiet backbone of Indian families for generations. When a Bollywood actress speaks about it with warmth and clarity, that model gets seen, remembered and respected in mainstream cultural discourse. Younger working women find themselves reflected in her honesty. Older women — many of whom are shaping the childhoods of their grandchildren today — find their contributions publicly honoured.
The Emotional Layer of Trust
Yami's phrasing — "only a mother is able to understand who their heart can trust" — also captures something deeply universal about parenthood. The choice of caregiver isn't just logistical. It is emotional. It is about who understands your child the way you understand your child. For Yami, that person happens to be her own mother — a beautiful, three-generation thread of care being extended into her son's life.
The Bigger Picture
Yami Gautam's answer about her son Vedavid wasn't just a brief interview response. It was a window into a family life shaped by trust, tradition, and quiet emotional discipline. In an industry where celebrity motherhood is often reduced to curated photo shoots and vacation snapshots, Yami's willingness to talk about the everyday reality of relying on her mother is both refreshing and grounding.
Vedavid may only be a little over a year old today, but he is already growing up in a family that treats motherhood, work and grandmotherhood as equally sacred parts of the same beautiful story. And for Yami, one thing is clear — when the camera calls her to set, her heart remains at ease. Because her son is exactly where a working mother's heart wants him to be — with the woman who once held her the same way.
