Romantic comedies often rely on familiar formulas, but Dulhaniya Le Aaeegi arrives with a refreshing premise that instantly stands out. Instead of waiting for the groom to arrive at the wedding, the bride is forced to search for a replacement groom just hours before the ceremony. Built around this quirky idea, the film blends comedy, emotions and family values into an entertaining package that keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end.
What makes the story work is that beneath all the laughter lies a heartfelt emotional conflict. It asks a simple yet compelling question—what should a woman do when she discovers, just before her wedding, that the man she is about to marry is abusive and unworthy? Cancel the wedding and break her father's heart, or somehow find another groom before the rituals begin? The film finds plenty of humour in this unusual situation while never losing sight of its emotional core.
Story
Navya (Khushali Kumar) is a successful HR Head whose wedding preparations are complete. Her father, Devi Prasad (Mahesh Manjrekar), has only one dream—to see his daughter happily married. But just a day before the wedding, Navya uncovers the ugly truth about her fiancé and realises she cannot spend her life with him.
The problem, however, goes far beyond a broken engagement. Devi Prasad's fragile health cannot withstand the shock of a cancelled wedding. Determined to protect him, Navya comes up with an extraordinary plan—to find another groom who is willing to marry her at the same mandap without letting her father discover the truth.
Her unusual mission is supported by her uncle, her closest friend Ragini (Snehil Dixit), and a series of colourful characters who keep complicating the situation. Former lovers return, marriage brokers create chaos, social media influencers add to the confusion, and every new encounter leads to another comic twist. While the screenplay is packed with entertaining moments, it also speaks about trust, compatibility and making the right life decisions.
Direction
Director Akashaditya Lama handles the unconventional subject with confidence and simplicity. Rather than turning the film into an over-the-top farce, he keeps the emotions grounded, allowing the humour to emerge naturally from the situations.
Writers Jayant Gupta and Anupriya Roy deserve credit for balancing comedy with genuine emotional moments. The screenplay captures the atmosphere of a middle-class Indian wedding, highlighting both traditional family values and the changing outlook of today's generation. The emotional bond between Navya and her father gives the film its strongest moments, while the comic situations ensure the narrative remains consistently entertaining.
Performances
Khushali Kumar delivers a confident and sincere performance as Navya. She convincingly portrays a woman who must remain emotionally strong despite the chaos surrounding her. Whether in emotional scenes or lighter comic moments, she carries the film with ease.
Mahesh Manjrekar lends warmth and authenticity to the role of Devi Prasad. His understated performance strengthens the emotional backbone of the story. Piyush Mishra once again proves why he is such a dependable performer, adding his trademark charm and effortless dialogue delivery.
Snehil Dixit (BC Aunty) is undoubtedly one of the film's biggest assets. Her comic timing is impeccable, and her chemistry with Khushali Kumar creates several memorable moments. She injects freshness into every scene she appears in.
Omkar Kapoor and Agu Stanley also perform their respective roles effectively, adding to the lively ensemble cast and maintaining the film's entertaining rhythm.
Final Verdict
Dulhaniya Le Aaeegi is not just another wedding comedy. Beneath its entertaining premise lies a thoughtful story about self-respect, family relationships, trust and choosing the right life partner. The middle-class wedding backdrop, relatable characters and light-hearted humour make the film both engaging and emotionally satisfying.
With an original concept, enjoyable performances and a screenplay that balances comedy with emotion, Dulhaniya Le Aaeegi succeeds as a wholesome family entertainer. It offers laughter, warmth and a meaningful message without becoming preachy. If you're looking for an enjoyable film that the entire family can watch together, Dulhaniya Le Aaeegi deserves a place on your weekend watchlist, earning a well-deserved rating
