Imran Khan feels he got this movie because of the money he would have earned from the flick.

In Samdish's podcast, Khan said, "I worked with Vishal Bhardwaj on 'Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola.' It was a film where I felt alone." Imran further explained, "I think they cast me in the film for some dishonest reason, not for any genuine creative reason." Ajay Devgan was attached to this film, but he left. My previous films had been hits, so they cast me because of the budget. Bollywood's casting process is completely based on budget.

Imran Khan criticized the industry for focusing more on money than creativity. He said, "No one cares about whether you're the right actor for the role when casting you. They just ask, 'How much money will I get with this?'" Khan also revealed that he and director Vishal Bhardwaj had a weak relationship during production, indicating a professional and emotional distance.
