Apeejay Kolkata Literature Festival (AKLF) has started today from 10 January. It was inaugurated by singer Usha Uthup. On this occasion, Ila Arun, Dr. Alka Pandey, Anand Neelkantan, Anita Agnihotri, Ashish Nandi, Blossom Kochhar, Kunal Basu, Mani Shankar Iyer, Rajdeep Sardesai, Ramchandra Guha, Ruchir Joshi, Shobha De, etc. were also present. Special tribute was paid to veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal at the festival. Eminent author Arjun Sengupta's book 'Shyam Benegal: Filmmaker of the Real India' was released. On this occasion, Usha Uthup urged the youth to read books and connect with literature.

Speaking on the importance of books at the festival, Usha Uthup said that books have a more positive impact on the minds of the youth than social media posts. While inaugurating the 16th edition of the APJ Kolkata Literature Festival (AKLF) started in Kolkata, she urged the young generation to reconnect with literature. "Reading books... feeling books... it is an experience that is so different that it will never get old. The printed word has a lasting impact on young minds. WhatsApp and Instagram are fine but we need to go back to books to find our roots," she said.

She mesmerized the audience by singing Ganesh Vandana and the world-famous James Bond song "Skyfall" sung originally by the famous Adele. She brought together tradition with modernity in it. The singer termed the literary conference as an excellent gathering of personalities of literature and others from art fields, where all the celebrities of all the worlds participate and share their ideas.
