Lara Dutta Recalls Near-Death Experience, Says Akshay Kumar Saved Her Life During ‘Andaaz’ Shoot

Miss Universe actress Lara Dutta has played many different roles in her acting career. Lara began her acting career with Akshay Kumar in a movie titled "Andaaz." Recently, Lara told a story about a situation where she was nearly killed in a car accident. However, Akshay Kumar, who played a role with her in this movie, risked his life to save Lara.
Speaking to Asian Television Network Canada, Lara recalled one of the most terrifying experiences of her career. The actress recalled how, while filming a dance sequence, a wave swept her and her co-star, Akshay Kumar, into the sea. The accident occurred during the shooting of "Andaaz."
The actress explained, "I jumped into the water wearing leather clothes. I couldn't swim, and I sank like a stone. What happened next could have been even worse. Akshay Kumar, who was in the water, caught me and brought me back to shore. I suffered hypothermia shock. Shooting was immediately stopped, and I was taken to the hospital."
Lara further stated that this incident had a profound impact on her. When Akshay Kumar later suggested her name to the makers of the film "Blue," which featured many sea and underwater scenes, Lara panicked and considered refusing.
The actress explained, "I called Akshay and told him I couldn't do the film. Akshay's immediate response was, 'Learn to swim.' At the age of 30, he asked me to learn diving. I said, 'I'm the only crazy one I've met.' But I had to do it. I learned to swim at the age of 30."

Released in 2009, "Blue" was a water adventure film featuring numerous underwater scenes. Filming for "Blue" involved numerous hazards, including scenes with real sharks underwater.
Akshay Kumar himself narrowly escaped death during the climax. He was struck in the head by a sunken ship 150 feet underwater and began bleeding in the presence of sharks. However, he managed to return to the surface.
"Blue" starred Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta, along with Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan. Made on a high budget, the film flopped at the box office.
