Supriya Pathak Reveals Mother Dina Pathak Opposed Her Marriage to Pankaj Kapur

Supriya Pathak is known for her powerful performance on screen. She belongs to a film family, and Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapoor are one of the favorite couples of Bollywood. But their marriage was not easy. Supriya and Pankaj have revealed this many times. Now, Supriya Pathak has once again revealed about her marriage, saying that her mother, Dina Pathak, was initially against their relationship. Supriya even faced opposition from her mother.

In a recent interview with Hotterfly, Supriya Pathak spoke about their mother-daughter relationship. Meanwhile, the actress revealed that when her mother, Dina Pathak, was talking about her and her relationship, she said, "My mother didn't like Pankaj. My mother didn't like me either. My mother didn't think this relationship would last. Well, it's been 38 years now, but if she were alive today, she would still say, 'He will leave you and go away.' I really don't know why she said that."

Supriya further explained that her mother even resorted to lies to separate us. She said, "My mother tried everything to convince me that Pankaj wasn't the right person for me. She allegedly investigated him and found out, 'Hey, he drinks a lot.'"

Even though she had never had a sip of alcohol in her entire life, she investigated and found out. So she would keep bringing up the topic or saying, 'Look, he does this, look, he does that.' This continued for a long time."

Finally, one day, Supriya's patience ran out and she gave her mother an ultimatum. The actress explained, "Finally, one day I said, 'It's nothing like that. My wedding is on such and such a date. If you want to come, come; if you don't, don't come.' She looked at me as if this was the limit.

She asked, 'Do you like paneer?' I said, 'I do.' She said, 'Well, no, he's Punjabi, so paneer...' This was her limit. Meaning, if you don't like paneer, you can't marry him. That was the end of it." However, just before her mother's death, her perspective underwent a profound change. She felt that Pankaj was the only right person for her. He had become her favorite, the only person she wanted around her.

Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur married in 1988. This was Pankaj Kapur's second marriage. He had previously been married to Neelima Azeem. Supriya and Pankaj have a daughter, Sanah, and a son, Ruhaan, while he has a son, Shahid Kapoor, from his first wife, Neelima Azeem.
