“Like Sachin Playing The World Cup On Debut”: Namit Malhotra On Taking Ramayana To 70,000 Screens Worldwide
Producer Namit Malhotra compares Ramayana’s global launch to Sachin Tendulkar’s World Cup debut. The film opens on a record 70,000 screens worldwide.

As “Ramayana: Part One” opens worldwide, producer Namit Malhotra has been reflecting on what the release means to him. Speaking to PTI, he said gratitude was his strongest feeling, given that Indian cinema is more than 100 years old and he has the chance to present the epic to the world in a new way. He acknowledged that generations of Indian filmmakers came before him, but said no one has made a “Ramayana” like this. Hence the cricketing comparison: it is like Sachin Tendulkar being picked for the World Cup in his debut match.
A Record Global Footprint
The release on 70,000 screens is unprecedented for an Indian film. The makers have partnered with Sony Pictures for the widest release any Indian film has had. The film is also releasing in five Indian languages. andhravilasnewsbytesapp
Before opening, “Ramayana” had its world premiere at the David Geffen Theatre of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, a venue known for screening Oscar-nominated films. The makers have described this as a milestone for an Indian production.
