The Kapoor family has always been Bollywood's most photographed clan, but every once in a while, a photograph surfaces that reminds you their legacy runs deeper than red carpets. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni took her fans on a warm, unfiltered trip down memory lane — sharing a nostalgic 1986 childhood photograph with her mother, actress Neetu Kapoor, and brother, actor Ranbir Kapoor. In one small Instagram Story, four decades of family love came flooding back.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Riddhima shared the old family photograph — marked '86 — that captured a moment from the siblings' growing-up years. In it, young Riddhima and Ranbir can be seen posing alongside their mother, Neetu Kapoor, the family's soft, steady centre even then.
The 'Rockstar' actor, still a child in the frame, looked notably adorable in a blue t-shirt paired with jeans — an outfit that instantly triggered a wave of nostalgia for fans who've watched him grow up in the public eye. Riddhima kept the caption simple, letting the photograph do the emotional heavy-lifting: "Happy Rakhi Rans. Love you," followed by red heart emojis.
Neetu Kapoor Reposts With 'My Loves'
Neetu Kapoor didn't let the moment pass quietly. She reposted the throwback photo on her own Instagram Stories, adding a brief but deeply affectionate note — "My loves." Between the two women — sister and mother — one photograph found its way into millions of feeds and a thousand family group chats.
A Bond Deepened by Loss
Riddhima and Ranbir Kapoor, children of late actor Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, have always been described as a close-knit sibling duo. But the loss of their father, Rishi Kapoor, in 2020 quietly transformed the shape of their relationship. Riddhima has publicly described her brother as the "pillar of the family," saying the family's collective grief brought her and Ranbir even closer and deepened their bond in ways that time alone never would have.
Both siblings have openly spoken about how the loss of their father strengthened their relationship — not in dramatic, headline-making moments, but in the small, private commitments they've made to be there for each other and for Neetu. That quiet togetherness is exactly what today's throwback photograph seemed to acknowledge without saying it out loud.
Why It Matters
Bollywood is often defined by its curated glamour — designer looks, choreographed appearances, meticulously timed reveals. Against that backdrop, moments like Riddhima's Rakhi post work differently. They aren't crafted for virality. They're moments of family memory shared publicly because they mean something — and because, in the Kapoors' case, the audience has grown up watching this family live its most meaningful moments in real time.
The image of a child Ranbir standing next to his young sister and mother, decades before he became one of Indian cinema's biggest stars, hits differently in a year that has already seen him navigate multiple career milestones and the family navigate life without Rishi Kapoor.
Cultural Impact
There's a reason old celebrity family photos become collective national memories in India. When someone like Riddhima shares a frame from 1986, it becomes not just her memory — it becomes a shared point of reference for an entire generation that grew up around Bollywood's most enduring first family. Every time Neetu Kapoor writes "my loves" on a shared photograph, she strengthens the emotional bond audiences feel with the Kapoors.
A Bollywood Sibling Day
Meanwhile, Raksha Bandhan across the industry became a season of nostalgia. Several celebrities took to social media to celebrate the special bond they share with their siblings, offering heartfelt wishes and cherished memories. From childhood photographs to heartfelt captions, the day quickly turned into one of the most emotionally rich celebrity moments of the year on Indian social media.
The Bigger Picture
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni's post is more than a Rakhi tribute — it's a snapshot of how the Kapoors continue to be a family that survives loss with love, holds each other close, and lets their audience in with grace and warmth. Ranbir Kapoor may today be one of Indian cinema's biggest stars, but in his sister's 1986 photograph, he's still simply "Rans." And in a year where so much has changed, that word — and the love packed into it — is exactly what makes this Raksha Bandhan feel timeless.
