Hema Malini said, "We were together for 57 years. I can't imagine life without him. Even though we weren't together all the time, he would ask me every minute where I was and when I was returning." Hema said that Dharmendra would often return from his Lonavala farmhouse just to spend time with Hema and their daughters (Esha and Ahana).
Recalling Dharmendra's last days, Hema became emotional. She said, "When he came home from the hospital, I was confident he would recover quickly. I thought he would still be with us for another year or two, but how did all this happen suddenly? We can't blame anyone; I can only say he lived a wonderful life. He was loved by millions. He was everyone's favorite, and I'm proud that the one everyone loved loved me."
