Satyajit Puri Reveals Dharmendra’s Daring Encounter with Gangsters
Dharmendra: Satyajit Puri has recounted an unheard anecdote about Dharmendra, highlighting his bravery.
There have been numerous Dharmendra stories, and people close to him still narrate the same. Actor-director Satyajit Puri recently narrated an interesting story about Dharmendra. He remembered the iconic actor's authoritative reaction when the underworld supposedly attempted to intimidate him.
In an interview with Friday Talkies, Puri recounted how the legendary action star Dharmendra challenged gangsters to beware of his "army from Punjab." He said, "The underworld was very strong back then. Those were the days when the underworld would call an actor, and they would be intimidated. However, Dharmendra and his family were never intimidated by them." He would tell them, "If you come, the entire Sahnewal community from Punjab will come. You have 10 people, but I have an entire army. I'll just say one word, and trucks will come to fight Punjab. So don't mess with me." And he never messed with Dharmendra.
Dharmendra is known for his work in "Shola Aur Shabnam" (1961), "Bandini" (1963), "Haqiqat" (1964), "Mera Gaon Mera Desh" (1971), "Sholay" (1975), "Chupke Chupke", "Dream Girl" (1977), and "Shalimar" (1978).
The 89-year-old actor was last seen in director Amit Joshi's film "Teri Baatein Mein Aisa Ulza Jiya," starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. The romantic comedy also starred Dimple Kapadia, Rakesh Bedi, and Rajesh Kumari. Dharmendra is working on the upcoming film "Ekkis" (2025), which stars actor Agastya Nanda in the lead role.
