The Rs 62 lakh award was confirmed by theBombay High Court to the family of a production house worker of actor Shah Rukh Khan's company. She was a victim of hit-and-run, following which she succumbed to her injuries. The bench rejected the petition of theCholamandalam MS General Insurance Company Ltd against the tribunal order. The court opined that it is hard to receive adequate compensation, but adequate compensation has to be provided.

A two-judge bench of Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Advait Sethna pronounced on May 9 that it did not observe any irregularity in the order passed by the November 2020 tribunal and refused to quash it. The judges maintained that the Motor Vehicles Act is a helpful act. The court cannot overlook the fundamental right accorded to a person under Article 21, which entails the ability to live a healthy life with dignity.

Citing a Supreme Court judgment, the High Court said that money cannot compensate for the loss of life, but efforts should be made to provide compensation that can compensate for the loss caused by money.

The court further said, 'It is difficult to get the right compensation, but fair compensation should be the ideal.' The court said that at least this much can be done to meet the purpose of justice. The court also said that a compensation of Rs 62 lakh should be given to the family of animator Charu Khandal of Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment.

Charu Khandal, who worked on VFX in Shah Rukh Khan's film 'Ra.One', died in the year 2017. She died five years ago after being paralyzed in a high-speed car accident. Charu Khandal was 28 years old when she was returning from a party to celebrate her team winning an award for the film.

After the accident, Khandal's family filed a claim for compensation before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in June 2014. After this, the tribunal ordered a compensation of Rs 62 lakh in November 2020. Regarding which the insurance company had claimed that his death was due to septicemia, which the court refused to accept. After this, the High Court said that Khandal's family had to spend Rs 18 lakh in medical bills.
