Sunny Deol Meets UP CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow

Mumbai: Actor Sunny Deol, who is promoting his upcoming period film Batwara 1947, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Friday.

Deol shared a photograph from the meeting on Instagram and wrote: “While in Lucknow, it was a pleasure to meet the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath ji. I had a very pleasant and warm conversation with him.”

He is on a promotional tour for the film, which is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and the humanitarian crisis that accompanied independence from British rule.

Earlier, Deol landed in Patna on Sunday with his son Karan Deol to begin the promotional campaign. The father-son duo were seen at the arrivals section of Patna airport in casual attire and were surrounded by the media before leaving for their destination. Sunny had a brief exchange with reporters as they departed.

Batwara 1947 also stars Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh and Karan Deol. The story follows a family whose lives are altered as violence, fear and forced migration tear apart communities that once lived side by side. Amid loss and division, the film focuses on the choice of kindness over hatred and hope over despair.

The project reunites producer Aamir Khan with composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who earlier collaborated on Lagaan. It also marks the return of director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol as a team after nearly three decades. The film is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.

Reports have suggested that the story has remained restricted in Pakistan, a claim that has added to interest around the historical drama ahead of its Independence Day-timed opening.

The Lucknow meeting formed part of Deol’s ongoing outreach for the film as the cast and makers build momentum in the final days before release.
