Delhi HC dismisses petition seeking changes in Honey Singh's song 'Maniac', reprimands petitioner
MANIAC, Honey Singh Maniac Song Dispute: Singer-rapper Honey Singh's recently released new song 'Maniac' is constantly in discussions. Controversy also arose over the words of the song and a petition was also filed for changes in it. Now the court has made its comment while hearing the matter. Know what the court has said.

The Delhi High Court has given huge relief to rapper and singer Honey Singh. The High Court has dismissed the plea requesting changes in the lyrics of Honey Singh's latest song 'Maniac'. "Obscenity has no religion," the High Court ruled. Petitioner Luvkush Kumar alleged that women were sexually exploited by including Bhojpuri lines in Honey Singh's song.
A bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard the petition of Luvkush Kumar. The petitioner's lawyer has explained that obscenity has been normalized with the employment of the Bhojpuri language in this song and women have been sexually exploited. On this, the bench observed that obscenity has no religion. It should not have any condition. Never say Bhojpuri as obscenity, obscenity is obscenity.
Lovkush Kumar had said in his petition, "Honey Singh's song promotes explicit sexual depiction. It uses double meaning, in which women are depicted only as an object of sexual desire. Its lyrics use vulgar language. Its lyrics show women as objects, which also promotes gender discrimination."
Hearing the petition, the bench of the court said that this petition was not admissible because relief was sought against a private person in it. The bench said, "We cannot issue any writ, because writs are issued against states or state instruments. Your case is not in the realm of public law but in the realm of private law. Therefore, we cannot issue a writ."
However, the court suggested the petitioner Lavkush Kumar follow other remedies under the law including filing a criminal case. The court said that if it is a crime and cognizable then you can file an FIR. If the FIR is not registered, then you know the further procedure. After this, the petitioner withdrew his petition.
