Big B Recalls Sunny Deol’s Angry Act on ‘Darr’ Sets
Amitabh Bachchan recounts on KBC how Sunny Deol tore his jeans in anger during a scene briefing for the film Darr.
Mumbai, August 12 — Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan recently recollected an incident in which Sunny Deol tore his jeans while being briefed for a scene.
During the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Bachchan told Deol: “I heard one thing once. You were shooting on a set. It was an action sequence. The action director was telling that Sunny was standing and he put his hand in his pocket. And he was listening to what was happening.
And he doesn’t agree with what he is being told. He doesn’t want to do anything. He didn’t agree at all. After a while, there was a sound of a cloth being torn. He was so angry. He pressed it so hard. He couldn’t take it out. He was feeling shy. But he doesn’t have any shame in his hands.”
The episode is reported to have occurred during the filming of Darr. According to accounts, Yash Chopra told Deol that his character would lose a fight sequence to Shah Rukh Khan’s character. Deol disagreed, arguing that his character belonged to the forces and was trained to neutralise any threat. When the director held firm, Deol is said to have kept his hands in his pockets to contain his anger, eventually tearing the fabric.
Elsewhere in the episode, Bachchan had a light-hearted exchange with Deol, asking why it had taken 18 seasons for him to appear on the show. In a promo shared by the channel, Bachchan asked: “Sunny, I want to ask you something. This is the 18th season. What were you doing for so long? Why didn’t you join us?”
Deol replied that he had been “very scared of the show” and needed time to think. Aamir Khan, also present, interjected that he had appeared six or seven times. Deol responded: “He doesn’t think, I do.”
Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol were on the show to promote their upcoming film Batwara 1947. The drama stars Deol in the lead and features Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles.
Kaun Banega Crorepati is the official Hindi adaptation of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? franchise. Bachchan has hosted the show for its entire run except for the third season, when Shah Rukh Khan temporarily took over.
