BMW car stolen Shilpa Shetty's restaurant; Unlocked car via hacking

A luxury car, BMW Z4 Convertible priced at about Rs 80 lakh was stolen from the parking lot of film actress Shilpa Shetty's Mumbai-based restaurant Bastian. This shocking incident took place in a Dadar-based restaurant. Ruhan Khan, the owner of the car, a businessman from Bandra, came to know about it when he received a call from his acquaintance about the theft when he came out of the restaurant and immediately lodged an FIR.

According to reports, a 34-year-old construction businessman and a resident of Bandra, Ruhan Khan came to 'Bastion' around 1 pm on Sunday. After giving the valet the car keys, he and his friends dined there. When the restaurant closed during the wee hours of dawn at around 4 am, Khan found that his car had disappeared. "He was shocked to see his car had vanished from the parking lot," said an official.

The CCTV captured that within some time after the valet parking entered the vehicle in the basement, two men arrived in a Jeep Compass SUV. Reports said the thieves unlocked the BMW car with advanced hacking techniques and fled with the car within minutes of entering the parking area. This quick theft has raised eyebrows regarding 'Bastion' and similar places. Coupled with this has also come up the question that no matter how tall claims the automakers make regarding the security features of their priced cars, the safety of cars from thieves is a cause of apprehension.

Talking about the stolen car, the BMW Z4 combines the dynamics of a sports car with that of a roadster. The said car gives out a maximum power of 340 hp. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 sec.

The police, after receiving the complaint, initiated an investigation and are scrutinizing footage from nearby surveillance cameras to trace the movement of the vehicle and the suspects who stole it. A case has been registered under Section 303 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) Act, which deals with theft offenses.
