Taapsee Pannu Opens Up About Balancing Serious and Commercial Cinema

Taapsee Pannu, an actress, is getting a lot of appreciation for her new movie, Assi. Critics appreciated the movie, and her acting skills were also appreciated. Taapsee Pannu often makes movies on serious subjects. Because of this reason, she thinks that it is difficult for her to get a movie like Dunky. She says that Dunky is a gift for her.

In a conversation with Screen, Taapsee Pannu was asked where she found the inspiration to make a serious and issue-oriented film like 'Assi' after doing a commercial film like 'Dunky.' The actress said that it's difficult for an actress like her to get a film like "Dunki" because she's not a commercial, mainstream, or successful heroine.

I got the role because it probably required an actress like me. That's what I've been told. It's because I've previously done films like "Assi" and "Gandhari." These films have given me my place and recognition in the industry. So, that's my truth. "Dunki" is a gift for these 10 years.

Further, about getting a commercial film like "Dunki," the actress said, "I don't know how long it will take for me to get another film. It's a struggle because she still has to accept that, 'We have to portray her fully in her full glory.'

I started my career with big-budget films in the South. I started my Hindi career with David Dhawan. What could be more commercial and bold than this? Then I worked with Anubhav Sinha and Anurag Kashyap."

Directors have unique choices. I can do this and that. I know what has earned me a niche audience. Even if it's small, I'm happy that I've earned their trust. Not every actress has this privilege. Therefore, this is my own territory.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, "Dunky" is a comedy-drama film based on the illegal immigration technique "dunky flight." Shah Rukh Khan plays the lead role, alongside Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, and Vikram Kochhar. Vicky Kaushal has a cameo in the film. The film was a box office success.

As for "Assi," directed by Anubhav Sinha, it's based on incidents like rape in India. The film reveals that one rape occurs every 20 minutes in the country, meaning eighty rapes occur every day. Taapsee Pannu plays the lead role in the film. Along with him, Kani Kusruti, Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak are also seen in important roles in the film.
