‘He Used His Business Mind’: Ismail Reacts to Arijit’s Decision

Many Bollywood stars responded to Arijit Singh's decision to retire from singing. Some people supported his decision, while others were surprised by it. However, composer Ismail Darbar has now commented on this issue. He found Arijit intelligent and said that he adopted a business-like approach. What else did Ismail Darbar say?

Ismail Darbar discussed Arijit's retirement in a conversation with Subhojit Ghosh. He expressed regret and also praised Arijit. Ismail Darbar said, "I just felt bad that I didn't get a chance to sing with him. I felt bad for myself because I wanted to work with him and see him from a different perspective. He was following the same style as his fellow music directors. He's good at what he does, I'm good at mine. We could have done something different in a collaboration."

Ismail Darbar further stated that Arijit's move was business-friendly. He said, "He also knows that we live in the age of social media. If he were singing for T-Series, it would be like the cooked food going into the label's stomach instead of Arijit's. If he had sung, the label would have benefited."

Ismail added, "He used his business mind. I must say that Arijit Singh is not an innocent or naive person. He is intelligent." He's as good a singer as he is a wise decision. I'm happy about that. If he doesn't want to do it, he shouldn't.

Ismail Darbar further stated that Arijit's current position is self-made. Arijit didn't get big because of them (labels). He is what he is today because of his hard work and God's blessings. If he ever comes to me, I'll ask him to sing one last song with me. He further added with a laugh, "But he's a little crazy, he won't sing."
