Actor Kamal Haasan's name and images cannot be used without his permission. Those doing so, especially for commercial purposes, must be cautious. According to news agency PTI, the Madras High Court on Monday temporarily banned the commercial use of actor Kamal Haasan's name and images.
Actor Kamal Haasan had filed a civil suit in the court, alleging that a Chennai-based firm, "Neeyi Vidai," was selling T-shirts and shirts using his photo, name, the title "Ulaganayagan," and his famous dialogue without his permission.
When the matter came before Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, senior counsel Satish Parasaran and advocate Vijayan Subramaniam, representing the actor, argued for the protection of personality rights. They requested that any organisation be prevented from using the actor's name, photograph, title, or dialogue without his consent.
