Arijit Singh Hasn’t Retired, He’s Just Taking a Break: Pritam Chakraborty
Pritam on Arijit Singh's Retirement: Singer Arijit Singh surprised everyone by announcing his sudden retirement from playback singing. Composer Pritam Chakraborty recently spoke on the matter, explaining the reason behind his retirement.
Notable singer Arijit Singh announced his retirement from playback singing in January this year. He made it clear that he will not be taking on any projects going forward, but will complete the ones he has lined up. This surprised many fans. Noted composer, Pritam Chakraborty has discussed this matter in recent times. Pritam feels that Arijit’s step is not one of retirement but rather that of taking a break from the industry for some time as he requires it.
Pritam further stated that when Arijit Singh announces that he is retiring from playback singing, it is essentially just him taking a break. Pritam made the remarks in an interview conducted by Screen. Pritam also said that Arijit's decision forced him to reconsider his own plans to take a break.

Pritam said that while he was trying to muster the courage to do so, Arijit Singh stepped forward and did what he wanted to do. Explaining Arijit's decision, Pritam said that fans should consider this announcement a 'break,' not a decision to leave the industry forever. He said that Arijit had been carrying the burden of ever-increasing work demands for a long time and now needs some space.
He said, "Arijit was singing so many songs, maybe he doesn't want to sing right now. Sometimes directors also put pressure on all of us." I too find it difficult to say 'no'. Give him some time, and he'll be fine. Pritam continued, "Artists never retire. They just take a break and move on to something they're more interested in. Let him move forward at his own pace. There are so many things he wants to explore. For starters, he's directing a film with a beautiful script. Besides, it's his life. It's his voice, so it should be his decision when to sing, when not to sing, what to sing, and what not to sing."
