Ram Gopal Varma was so impressed after watching the film that he wrote on his Twitter account, "After watching 'Kantara,' the rest of India's filmmakers should be ashamed." He said that Rishab Shetty and his team have presented every aspect of the film—background music, sound design, cinematography, production design, and VFX—at such a level that it proves to be a new high in Indian cinema.

Ram Gopal Varma even wrote that he doesn't know whether to call Rishab Shetty a great actor or a great director. He believes that this film has set a new standard for the Indian film industry, and future directors and producers will be unable to ignore this level even if they want to.
