Gene Barge popularly known as 'Daddy G', an American saxophone player and musician died at the age of 98. According to his daughter Gina Barge, he died in his sleep at his home in Chicago on Sunday. He was a famous saxophone player, songwriter, and producer who played on hits by Natalie Cole, recorded Muddy Waters, and performed with the Rolling Stones.

Barge's career began after World War II. He was in college jazz combos in the 1940s. He started out with Little Richard and James Brown. He also played with C.C. Ryder, "Quarter to Three" and "Quarter to Three" contributed to a number of songs in the '60s. He later recorded with artists such as Waters, Buddy Guy, and Willie Dixon, co-producing Cole's Grammy Award-winning solo 'Sophisticated Lady'.

In the 1970s and beyond, he gained recognition as an actor in thrillers and crime films, including Above the Law, The Package, and The Fugitive. Barge also served as a consultant for Martin Scorsese's documentary The Blues.

Before entering into a career in music, Gene Barge dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. Gene James Barge grew and developed in Norfolk, Virginia. Gene dreamed of becoming a professional footballer and then a clarinet player in his high school marching band. Gene began tenor saxophone soon after returning from a two-year tour in the Air Force and a little early in college at West Virginia State College. In 2007, Virginia Living interviewed Gene and he stated that he dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. He said, 'Saxophone was the musical instrument whose sound was closest to the human voice. It was an impressive musical instrument. It was the special musical instrument of the band, so he wanted to play it.' He composed many such compositions in his career which are praiseworthy.
