'Our Ramayan Will Overshadow the New One': Dipika Chikhlia on Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana
Dipika Chikhlia, who played Sita in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayana', has commented on Sai Pallavi's portrayal of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming 'Ramayana' adaptation.
The trailer for the upcoming Ramayana will drop on July 24. Actor Dipika Chikhlia, who is renowned for her role as Sita in the classic TV series, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, expressed her views on Tiwari’s Ramayana in a recent interview.
Dipika shared her views on Sai Pallavi as Mother Sita. While speaking to Variety India in an interview, she also discussed the role of Arun Govil as King Dasharatha, the legacy of the show, and the impact it had on her career by playing Sita in the series.
Talking about Sai Pallavi playing Mother Sita, Dipika stated that Sai is extremely talented but it is unjustified to make opinions before watching her performance.
She said, "I have seen her work. She is an excellent actress. But I don't know how she will look in the role of Sita. We will only know once we see her. Right now, I don't know anything about it."
Dipika then referred to the description of Sita in Tulsidas's 'Ramayana', explaining that Ramanand Sagar had sought an actress with specific physical attributes for the role. She stated, "In Tulsidas's 'Ramayana', Sita is described as a woman with almond-shaped eyes and specific features regarding her stature, hair, and complexion. Ramanand Sagar was looking for an actress with these qualities, and he saw them in me." Deepika further added, "I feel our 'Ramayan' will overshadow the other 'Ramayan' because when it was re-telecast on TV during the COVID period, the younger generation watched it too, and the image of Sita-ji from that version is firmly imprinted in their minds. They might not accept a Sita with curly hair in this new 'Ramayan'."
As for the other characters in the film, Yash will appear as Ravan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The first part of the film is set to release around Diwali.
