Tusshar Kapoor: Son Laksshya Wants to Be Footballer
Actor Tusshar Kapoor says his son Laksshya is keen on a football career and should enter films only if fully committed.
Mumbai, July 28 — Actor Tusshar Kapoor has said that his son Laksshya currently aspires to become a professional footballer and that any decision to enter the film industry should be made only with complete certainty and commitment.
Speaking to IANS on the occasion of completing 25 years in cinema, Tusshar was asked about his aspirations for his son. He replied that Laksshya is deeply interested in football and that he hopes the boy will be able to build a career in the sport.
“He wants to become a footballer, so I hope he finds a job where he can contribute as a footballer. In India, I don’t know how easy or hard it is, but besides that he is not interested in films yet,” Tusshar said. “But if he wants to be an actor, he has to be very very passionate and he is 100% clear and sure about it. Only then can he become one. Otherwise, I don’t want him to get into it. Unless you are able to go through the ups and downs.”
The actor, known for films such as Golmaal, emphasised that the demands of a film career require more than family background. When asked whether the perception of film families has shifted because of the difficulties many have experienced, he said earlier generations had not forced their children into the profession.
“I don’t think dad (Jeetendra) or Dharamji or Amitji ever forced any of us to become actors. It was something that we were clear about whenever we decided to become actors. But all the more now we have realised it’s not for everybody,” he observed.
He listed the practical requirements for success: talent, screen presence, resilience, fighting spirit and a measure of luck. “If you are not getting positive signals as far as coming to this line is concerned, then decide to get out as soon as possible, or don’t get in only,” he added.
Tusshar became Bollywood’s first high-profile single father when he welcomed Laksshya through surrogacy on 1 June 2016. The boy is now ten years old and, according to his father, remains focused on football rather than films.
The conversation reflects a measured parental stance that prioritises the child’s own clarity of purpose over any assumed continuity of a film lineage. Tusshar’s comments suggest he is prepared to support a sporting career while remaining cautious about the uncertainties of the film industry unless his son demonstrates unequivocal commitment.
