‘Why Same Faces for Same Roles?’ Taapsee Calls Out Industry Trend

Taapsee Pannu is receiving appreciation for her latest film "Assi." Critics have also appreciated the film. At the same time, Taapsee Pannu questioned why the same actors are being chosen for the same roles. This is Taapsee's third collaboration with Anubhav Sinha. During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Taapsee Pannu revealed that she has questioned several leading directors about the repetitive casting choices in their films. The actress said it's difficult.

It's difficult for people, not just me, to imagine because we live so comfortably within our own imaginations. "Okay, this is this kind of role, so it'll be fine." No one wants to think outside the box.

When I go to meet some of the top directors here, I have a conversation with them. First, I have to break the notion that I'm comfortable doing films where I'm not the lead, that is, the story isn't mine. Then I have to tell them that I want to do lighter roles. It's not that there has to be any problem if I'm in a film.

Taapsee further explained, "I really question them. Why do you always choose the same faces for the same kind of roles? It's unfair to them too." It's also unfair to people like me who want to experiment with their craft. As a director, it's self-satisfaction to think, "Oh, this is a typical character, and who are the girls who look like her? Just these girls." Then they'll do the same thing in other films. But when I do something like this, I'll probably bring something new to the table.
