Diljit Dosanjh Unveils Intense First Look of 'Punjab 95'

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) – Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, known for his electrifying Dil-Luminati tour, has unveiled the gripping first look of his upcoming film Punjab '95. The film, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, showcases Diljit in a raw and intense avatar.
On Saturday, Diljit shared a series of images on Instagram, offering a glimpse into his character. Alongside the pictures, he wrote, “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab 95.”
In the first image, Diljit is seen sitting on the floor in a rugged kurta and turban, his bloodied and bruised face reflecting immense pain and resilience. The stark imagery hints at the emotional and physical turmoil central to the story.
Another image captures a softer side, portraying Khalra's personal life. Diljit, as Khalra, is seen with two children, providing a poignant glimpse into the activist's real-life journey.
The film delves into the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a bank director from Amritsar during Punjab's militancy period. Khalra gained prominence for his brave investigation into alleged police atrocities following events like Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Indira Gandhi, and the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. Khalra uncovered evidence of unlawful detentions, staged encounters, and the mass cremation of unclaimed bodies to cover up murders.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had initially proposed over 120 cuts to the film due to its sensitive subject matter, casting uncertainty over its release. However, with Diljit’s growing global stature, the film now seems poised to finally hit the big screen.
Diljit’s post has already sparked widespread anticipation for the movie, which promises to shed light on Khalra's fearless fight for justice during a turbulent chapter in India’s history.
In a recent development, Diljit also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, adding another intriguing layer to the actor’s eventful journey.
Punjab '95 is expected to be a powerful portrayal of an untold story, marking yet another milestone in Diljit Dosanjh’s illustrious career.
